Un-Muddying The Waters
One of the most frequent questions from new players is: "How do I craft weapon evolutions like in Vampire Survivors?"
In Monster Survivors (FreezeNova), there are actually two completely separate progression systems happening at once. Attempting to mix them up is the reason you are stuck at Wave 10.
1. In-Game Weapon Evolution During a Run
In-Game Evolution applies only during your active run. Whenever you kill monsters, they drop blue/yellow XP gems. Collecting these gems levels up your hero temporarily.
The Upgrade Phase
Each time you level up during a run, you receive random upgrade choices. If you repeatedly choose the same weapon (e.g., your Plasma Gun), it gains levels, firing faster or hitting harder.
The Evolved State
Once a specific weapon reaches its maximum in-run level (Max Level), it automatically "Evolves." An evolved weapon often gains entirely new properties—like a single spark turning into a branching Chain Lightning, or a Sword sweeping wider arcs.
2. The Gear Merge System Main Menu / Permanent
Between runs, you return to the Main Menu. Here, you collect chests and loot. This is where Monster Upgrades and Merging happen. Anything done here is permanent and applies to all future runs.
The "3-to-1" Merge Rule
If you want to increase the baseline power or passive stat boosts of your weapons, you must merge them. The game operates on a strict duplicate consumption math:
3 Identical Items (Same Tier/Color) = 1 Item of the Next Rarity Tier
For example, if you have three Common (White) Axes, you can visit the Blacksmith/Inventory screen and merge them to create one Rare (Green) Axe. Not only does this heavily inflate the base damage, but higher tiers often unlock hidden passive traits (such as faster orbital speeds).
Rarity Scaling Guide
As you collect hundreds of chests, you will push your equipment through these tiers:
Common (White/Gray): Base starting stats. Good for the first 5 waves.
Uncommon/Rare (Green): Slight damage multiplier and attack speed bump.
Rare/Epic (Blue): A significant mid-game powerspike. Capable of carrying you past wave 15.
Epic/Mythic (Purple): Huge baseline stat inflations. Elite mobs die much faster.
Legendary (Gold): The absolute meta. Required for infinite survival runs and Shade Palace boss clears.
Are "Lower-Tier" Combinations Worth It?
Yes! Due to Stat Inflation, a highly merged item that is technically considered a "weak" weapon in our Weapons Tier List will often grossly out-damage a top-tier weapon that hasn't been merged at all.
Practical Example: If your S-Tier Plasma Gun is merely Common (White), but you have successfully merged C-Tier Fists all the way to Epic (Purple), use the Epic Fists. Raw multiplier numbers will save you far better than relying on base level mechanics.
Now Maximize Your Synergy
You've evolved them in-game and merged them to gold. Now, learn which 4 weapons you should equip simultaneously to create an unbreakable barrier.
