Quick answer
Best Upgrade Priority at a Glance
This is the default order for an account still pushing progression. The App can change prices between versions, so use the current cost shown on your screen and stop buying a stat when the next level delays a stronger priority.
| Priority | Upgrade | Best Stage | Buy / Stop Rule | Cost Rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Damage Broad permanent offense |
Early account through late progression | Buy while normal enemies remain alive long enough to close lanes. Pause when survival, range or a boss-specific check is the real wall. | Take efficient affordable levels first; do not empty scarce currency for a tiny displayed increase. |
| 2 | Attack Speed More uptime and smoother coverage |
Early and mid progression; especially strong for crowd builds | Buy when weapons leave gaps between attacks or effects trigger too slowly. Pause if the build already attacks smoothly but lacks raw damage. | Compare the displayed increase with the next Damage level; buy the cheaper meaningful gain. |
| 3 | Range or one survival stat Range, HP, Armor, Dodge, Shield or HP Restore |
Mid progression and unfamiliar maps | Choose Range when enemies enter danger space too early. Choose one defensive direction when ordinary hits start an unrecoverable chain. | Buy only enough to survive or reposition consistently; return to offense after the wall is fixed. |
| 4 | Crit Chance and Crit Damage Focused boss and elite damage |
Mid to late game after wave clear is stable | Move Crit up when bosses survive but ordinary waves are comfortable. Keep it below broad offense on a fresh account. | Do not pay a high late-level cost unless focused damage is the measured bottleneck. |
| 5 | Keeper gear enhancement A proven item with the right effect |
Mid to late game, after the slot stops changing often | Enhance when the piece supports the main build and the full output is visible. Stop if a replacement is likely. | Preserve useful duplicates and compare the material cost with a permanent stat purchase. |
| 6 | XP Gain, Pickup Range and Luck Farming and comfort |
Safe repeatable content and late optimization | Buy after the build already reaches and clears the reward reliably. Remove these priorities during a hard push. | Use spare ordinary resources; never delay required combat power or a major permanent unlock. |
Named stat route
Which Upgrade Names Should You Choose?
Match the name shown in your current menu to the job below. Hero cards can also have named abilities, but those should be judged by their displayed effect rather than by the name alone.
| Names to Look For | Use Them For | When They Move Up | When They Move Down |
|---|---|---|---|
| DamageAttack Speed | General progression and stronger weapon output | Crowds remain alive or attacks leave unsafe gaps | The run already clears but dies to one repeatable threat |
| RangeSpeed | Safer spacing, collection routes and projectile-heavy maps | Enemies or hazards force you into contact range | The map is comfortable and damage is behind |
| Crit ChanceCrit Damage | Bosses and durable elites | Focused targets survive after normal waves are solved | A fresh account still lacks reliable clear speed |
| HPArmorDodgeShieldHP Restore | Preventing burst deaths or unrecoverable chip damage | A normal mistake consistently ends an otherwise viable run | Enemies overwhelm you because they are not dying |
| XP GainPickup RangeLuck | Repeat farming and quality of life | The stage is already cleared consistently | You are pushing a difficult gate or boss |
Price check
How to Compare Upgrade Costs
Fixed public prices are not reliable across App updates and account states. Use the exact number displayed in your current menu, then compare what that purchase changes before confirming it.
| Record From the Screen | Question | Buy | Wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current price | How much of this currency remains afterward? | A useful reserve remains or the purchase removes the current wall. | The spend empties scarce currency for a marginal level. |
| Displayed stat change | Does the number improve the job the build lacks? | The gain directly improves clear, boss damage, spacing or survival. | The number rises but the failed run would play the same way. |
| Next-level price | Has this stat become much more expensive than another useful option? | It remains the cheapest meaningful solution. | A lower-cost Damage, Attack Speed or required safety level gives more value. |
| Consumed gear or materials | Are any keepers, useful duplicates or alternate effects being removed? | Every consumed item is confirmed spare and the output is clear. | The preview is ambiguous or a useful effect would be lost. |

The Three Upgrade Layers
The App has more than one long-term decision. Separate these layers before spending so a temporary gear boost does not consume resources needed for broader progression.
Simple rule: the broader the benefit and the harder it is to replace, the earlier it belongs in your upgrade order.
1. Permanent Progression
BUY BROAD VALUE FIRSTThese gains carry into later attempts through account or survivor progression. Prioritize the benefit that helps your most-used hero and loadout across the widest range of stages.
- Improves many future runs
- Cannot be replaced by a random drop
- Fixes clear speed or survival
- Supports your main progression route
2. Gilded Core Spending
USE A SPENDING GATETreat Gilded Cores as a scarce progression resource, not a notification to clear immediately. Read the result preview and spend only when the gain is permanent, useful now and difficult to replace.
Open the Gilded Cores guide3. Gear Enhancement
ENHANCE KEEPERSEquipment power is attached to a specific piece. That can be excellent value when the item fits your build, but poor value when the slot is about to be replaced. Protect useful duplicates and check every enhancement or merge preview.
Follow the safe gear workflowProtect scarce currency
When Should You Spend Gilded Cores?
Spend only when all three answers below are “yes.” If one answer is unclear, close the screen and keep the Cores.
Is the gain persistent?
Prefer a benefit that remains useful in later runs rather than a short-lived convenience or replaceable item.
Does it fix today's wall?
The upgrade should solve a real problem: slow clears, fragile runs, a useful unlock or a missing build function.
Is the result clear?
The current App preview should show what changes. Do not spend from memory of an older menu or another game version.
Spend now
- The benefit helps your main hero or most-used build.
- It unlocks a meaningful permanent effect or progression step.
- The next stage repeatedly exposes the exact weakness it fixes.
- You understand the cost and the result shown on screen.
Save instead
- You are spending only to remove an upgrade notification.
- The target is a temporary piece or unused secondary build.
- The gain is marginal while a major unlock is within reach.
- The guide you followed shows different menus, developers or currencies.

How to Strengthen Gear Without Regretting It
The safest route is selection first, enhancement second. Do not pour materials into every red dot in the inventory.
-
1
Lock your current keepers
Protect the pieces used by your main build and any strong alternate piece you may need later.
-
2
Compare the effect, not only the number
A higher score is not automatically better if the existing piece has a more useful effect for your hero, weapon or stage.
-
3
Choose one bottleneck slot
Improve the piece that directly increases damage, survival or build function instead of spreading materials evenly across every slot.
-
4
Read the enhancement or merge preview
Confirm the output piece, consumed items and displayed stat change before accepting. The current screen is the source of truth.
-
5
Test before the next expensive step
Run the stage that blocked you. If the upgrade solved the problem, keep building; if not, diagnose the next bottleneck before spending again.
Spend by failure point
What Should You Upgrade Next?
Use the way your last serious run failed. That is more useful than keeping every stat and item at the same level.
| What Is Blocking You? | Best Next Investment | Why It Fits | Do Not Rush |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal enemies remain alive and crowd every escape lane | Broad offense or main damage gear | Faster removal lowers pressure before defense is tested. | A luxury defensive sidegrade that does not improve clear speed. |
| A normal mistake removes most of your health | Survivability or recovery | You need enough room to correct positioning and continue the run. | More offense if your current damage already clears safely. |
| The boss survives, but regular waves are comfortable | Single-target output or boss-focused keeper gear | This targets the actual damage check without rebuilding the entire account. | General farming bonuses that do not help the boss attempt. |
| Your gear changes every few rewards | Save materials; favor permanent progression | Heavy item investment loses value when the slot is still unstable. | Deep enhancement on a piece likely to be replaced. |
| You cannot name the problem | Run once and observe | A diagnosis costs less than an unfocused Core or gear purchase. | Any expensive upgrade made only because it is available. |

How Priorities Change as You Progress
Damage baseline first
- 1. Buy affordable Damage levels
- 2. Add Attack Speed for smoother coverage
- 3. Add Range or one survival stat only when needed
- 4. Keep gear investment shallow while slots change
Break the current wall
- 1. Diagnose crowd, boss, spacing or survival failure
- 2. Add Damage/Attack Speed, Crit, Range or defense accordingly
- 3. Use Cores only on the matching permanent result
- 4. Enhance one proven keeper, then re-test
Improve efficiency and depth
- 1. Finish high-impact permanent Damage and build stats
- 2. Refine Crit, gear effects and specialist synergy
- 3. Fund a second build only for a defined job
- 4. Add XP Gain, Pickup Range and Luck last
Avoid wasted progress
Common Upgrade Mistakes
Using browser Gold advice in the App
The VOODOO App and the online browser game are separate products. Their currencies, menus and progression advice are not interchangeable.
Keeping every slot equally upgraded
Equal levels look tidy but often delay the one offensive or defensive upgrade that would actually move you forward.
Enhancing a piece because it is new
New rarity or a larger score does not guarantee better build value. Compare effects and replacement risk first.
Spending Cores without a target
A scarce resource should buy a clear outcome. Save it when you cannot explain how the purchase changes your next run.
Using every duplicate as fodder
A duplicate may support a later merge, another hero or a different boss setup. Protect useful effects before cleaning inventory.
Copying an old cost table
App rewards and prices can move between updates. Use the cost and result shown in your current upgrade screen.
Monster Survivors App Upgrade FAQ
What is the best first upgrade in the App?
Start with permanent Damage and Attack Speed because both improve a wide range of runs. Add Range or one survival direction only when spacing or incoming damage is the measured failure, then invest more heavily in Crit and keeper gear later.
Should I spend Gilded Cores as soon as I get them?
No. Spend when the preview shows a meaningful permanent benefit, useful unlock or direct answer to the wall blocking progress. Save when the gain is marginal, the target is replaceable or you are only reacting to a notification.
Should permanent upgrades or equipment come first?
Permanent Damage, Attack Speed and required safety usually come first because they help more runs and cannot be replaced by a drop. Equipment becomes the better spend when the piece is a clear keeper, the complete output is visible and that slot is no longer changing often.
What about XP Gain, Pickup Range and Luck?
Treat them as farming and comfort upgrades. They rise in value after a repeatable stage is already safe, but they should not replace the Damage, Attack Speed, Range or survival needed to clear a difficult gate.
How do I avoid wasting gear materials?
Lock current keepers, preserve useful duplicates, compare effects instead of score alone and read the complete output preview before enhancing or merging. Stop if the consumed items or resulting piece are unclear.
Is this the same system as Play Online?
No. This page covers the VOODOO App. The site's Play Online page hosts a separate browser game, so its Gold upgrade order and costs should not be applied to Gilded Cores or App equipment.
