Rocket Launcher
A heavy-ordinance weapon designed to disrupt enemy formations. It fires slow-moving explosive projectiles that detonate on impact, dealing massive area-of-effect damage while simultaneously pushing back heavy enemies.
Mechanics: The Tank Disruptor
The Rocket Launcher operates differently from Magic or Standard Projectile weapons. Its value is weighted heavily towards its utility rather than raw DPS:
- Explosive Radius: When the rocket collides with an enemy (or reaches its max range), it detonates. Any enemy within the blast radius takes full damage.
- The Knockback Effect: This is the weapon's primary selling point. The blast physically shoves enemies backward. It is widely considered the best counter to the notoriously annoying Purple Tank Zombies that otherwise ignore hit-stun.
- No Piercing: Rockets do not pierce. They explode on the very first target they hit. If a weak bat flies in front of your intended Boss target, the rocket will detonate on the bat.
How to Build the Rocket Launcher
Because the Rocket Launcher has glaring weaknesses (slow projectile speed and a lack of pierce), you must tailor your passive item selections to patch these holes if you want to take it into late-game waves.
Vital Stat Priorities
-
1. Projectile Speed (Bracer) Absolutely mandatory. Without increased projectile speed, fast-moving enemies will literally outrun your rockets, causing you to constantly miss moving targets.
-
2. Area of Effect (Candelabra) Increases the detonation blast radius. Since rockets don't pierce, a massive blast radius ensures you can still damage the Boss even if you accidentally hit a minion standing in front of it.
-
3. Cooldown Reduction (Empty Tome) Higher fire rate means more frequent knockback explosions, essentially creating an impassable barrier of blasts between you and the incoming horde.
Caution: The "Body Block" Dilemma
Never rely on the Rocket Launcher as your sole single-target Boss killer. Because it explodes on the first enemy it touches, Bosses that summon minions (like the Necromancer) can easily use their summons as meat-shields to absorb your rockets entirely. Always pair this with a piercing Magic weapon or a melee weapon like the Steel Sword.
Meta Version Note: This guide reflects the current explosive/physics interactions for the Rocket Launcher. Knockback distance algorithms are occasionally tweaked in minor FreezeNova patches. Verify current knockback efficacy in-game before committing to an endgame build.
