The Axe
The Axe is a unique defensive-offensive weapon in Monster Survivors. Instead of striking outward, it continuously swirls around the player, creating a physical orbit that damages enemies before they can get into contact range.
Evolution Mechanics: Rarity & Supercharge
Unlike the Short Sword which combines with another item to trigger a named evolution (e.g., Holy Sword), the Axe relies entirely on Rarity Upgrades and Supercharge nodes via the Weapon Evolution Guide.
- Green & Blue Rarity: Often feels underwhelming due to slow orbital speed and only having 1-2 axes active. They leave massive gaps for enemies to walk through.
- Purple Rarity: The spinning speed and hit registration improve massively, solidifying it as a great crowd-control barrier.
- Orange/Legendary Rarity: Multiple axes swirl simultaneously with virtually zero gaps. It becomes "extremely strong," inflicting rapid multi-hit damage on Bosses and instantly shredding minor swarms (like Bees and Plants) before they touch you.
Playstyle & Synergies
Because the Axe forms a protective ring, the ideal playstyle is aggressive positioning. Instead of kiting backwards, you can confidently slowly walk into dense packs of enemies, allowing the outer perimeter of your axes to grind them for XP gems instantly.
Vital Stat Priorities to Prevent Fall-off
In late-game waves (Wave 17-20), the Axe's base swing speed can become a limiting factor, causing you to take chip damage. Here is what you must prioritize:
-
1. Attack Speed Critical. Increases the RPM (rotations per minute) of the axes, eliminating the "gaps" where fast enemies like Bees can slip through and hit you.
-
2. Area of Effect (Size) Expanding the radius of the axes keeps dangerous elite Crabs and Pumpkins further away from your core hurtbox while still dealing full damage.
-
3. Base Damage Because the Axe hits continuously, flat damage increases apply rapidly, making it one of the best sustained DPS tools against dense Bosses.
Dispelling a Common Myth
Many beginner players confuse Monster Survivors with Vampire Survivors, thinking the Axe here will evolve into an outward-firing "Death Spiral" when combined with an area item. This is incorrect. The Axe in this game always remains an orbital shield—it just gains more blades and damage multipliers as it scales!
